The effect of college students social media use on social belonging

Bailey Santaguida, Kimberly Cameron

The purpose of this study is to examine the link between social media use during COVID-19 and perceived social belonging. Participants included 522 undergraduate students from two liberal art institutions in the southeast United States. In the fall of 2020, participants were given a Qualtrics survey, in which social media use and social belonging were measured. We will conduct a regression analysis to examine whether social media use is associated with social belonging. These findings are important because it can help inform schools how to focus their efforts regarding social beloningness.
