Ghana: Pawn or Partner

Frank Hanson

Being from the West African nation of Ghana, I have always been interested by how the different global influences were championing development in my region of the world. For this experiment, I wanted to focus on the narrative and the actions of a growing super power that has often been ignored in favor of their Western European powers. In this research period, I wanted to find out how China was stimulating social and economic growth in Africa, using my home country of Ghana as a case study for said interactions. I used aiddata.org, a think tank out of William and Mary to track the Chinese investment in this part of the world, to see the status of the various projects, geolocating them on a map for future reference.
